Username
The name 'chejrw' was assigned when Justin first attended the University of Alberta. In a practise that only lasted one year, university accounts were assigned by combining a 3-character program code with your initials. Therefore a student named John Howard Smith doing a degree in Math would have the username MTH.JHS. Thus, Justin's was CHE.JRW, as he was enrolled in the Chemical Engineering (CHE) program, and his initials are JRW. When he signed up for Xgen in November of 2004, he dropped the separating period and reverted to lowercase, creating chejrw. The name is an initialism, meant to be pronounced by reading out the letters individually (Like IBM, AOL, etc), not an acronym. Chejrw frequently changes his name to Justin because of people annoying him over the pronunciation.
Avatar
Chejrw's iconic beaker avatar has been the same since day one. In 2007, Chejrw created an 'updated' version of his avatar featuring NES-style 8-bit blocky graphics. His current signature was converted to a similar blocky 8-bit style. This version was used until early 2009, when he reverted back to the first version.
Update: In a shocking departure from normalcy, chejrw changed his avatar, title, and signature to ones themed after the television series 'Futurama'. In particular his Prof. Farnsworth avatar and title ("GOOD NEWS EVERYONE") have caused many users to subconsciously read his posts in the voice of Prof. Farnsworth.
History
chejrw initially joined the forum to ask about gas pockets in Motherload, and stuck around after meeting the Xgen Team in person at the Edmonton Flash Developers meeting, where they were discussing the initial concepts of the MMOCHa engine (the platform that Stick Arena runs on).
In September of 2005, Xgen had fallen on dark times. The admins had largely left the forum, posting rarely if at all. Many of the founding members of the forum had left, including several of the forum's moderators, such as Morwin and Kerry. The forum was overrun by new users, and classic institutions of Xgen, such as the Friars Club and The Elites, were rapidly becoming inactive. chejrw, seeing that positive change was needed in order to teach the new users the ways of xgen and enforce the forum rules, petitioned Danny to become a forum Moderator. Surprisingly, his offer was accepted. Shortly after his promotion to Moderator, two founding members of the forum, Kerry and Vagrant, returned to the forum. Kerry was made forum Administrator, and Vagrant forum Moderator. With a strong team of moderators and admins, order was restored to the forum.
After a few months, Kerry once again left the forum, resigning as forum administrator. In her place, both Vagrant and chejrw were promoted to forum admins in January of 2006. Vagrant resigned his post and left the forum in September of 2007. In his place, Danielle was promoted to administrator. She, too, resigned in April of 2009. In August of 2009, Sperry (aka snowmanincave) was promoted to admin.
Join Date
Chejrw joined the forum, late 2004. After being promoted to admin, he was messing around in the adminCP and accidentally deleted his join date. Not being able to remember the proper date, he set it to November 2003 to pretend to be one of the 'cool '03ers'. According to internet detectives, his actual join date is most likely 11-25-2004.
Trivia
- chejrw was the co-founder of the Sock Council, along with Danielle and Sperry.
