Stick Arena is a popular online brower-based multiplayer flash game. The primary focus of the game is to accumulate the most number of kills, avoid deaths, and appear on the high score leaderboard. It was originally released to the public on http://www.xgenstudios.com in November 2005, with its beta version released just a month before. It attracted many newcomers to the forums and overall expanded XGen's fan base. The game itself was designed after the combat systems demo of the highly anticipated Stick RPG 2.

The expansion of Stick Arena, originally Stick Arena: Go Ballistick!, now just Stick Arena Ballistick, includes six exclusive new weapons, new maps along with a working map editor, spinners, and pets. To play and use the new features of a the expansion, a player is required to buy a Lab Pass of any kind, which can be obtained or renewed every month at a fee of $5.99, every six months for $29.95, or every year for $57.95. Additionally, a player with a Lab Pass may VIP a non-Lab Pass player to join their Ballistick created games.

Gameplay

The Ballistick lobby with the general chatter that goes on there.

The game starts out in the lobby, where all the players chat with each other and set up games. There is a game list and a player list below the game list. Above the games, there is the server scroll where you can pick between the many Stick Arena servers. When logging in, it usually logs you into a random server. To select a server before log in, you can click the "Advanced" tab at the bottom of the log-in menu. There a drop-down menu of all the servers (except the S.S Lineage {B}) appear

After you pick and enter a game, whether it may be a public game or private game set up with friends, the real gameplay starts. The object of each round, by the book, is to attain as many kills as possible. The player with the most kills by the end of the round wins. In the event of a tie for kills, the least amount of deaths determine the winner. There are few occasions when the kills and deaths of two players are tied, in which they both earn first place.

The gameplay featured in Stick Arena. Pictured above is what is known as a free-for-all.

This type of gameplay, in which Stick Arena was originally meant for, is called free-for-all. There are many other modes of gameplay which can be found below under the Terms section.

Additionally, after a user reaches a certain amount of kills on their account, obtained from playing games, they move on to a new rank. Ranks determine how many kills a player has but are sometimes mistaken for skill classification. Here is a list of the ranks and kills needed to reach them:

  • Rank 00: 0 kills
  • Rank 01: 5 kills
  • Rank 02: 25 kills
  • Rank 03: 100 kills
  • Rank 04: 300 kills
  • Rank 05: 750 kills
  • Rank 06: 2,000 kills
  • Rank 07: 5,000 kills
  • Rank 08: 10,000 kills
  • Rank 09: 20,000 kills
  • Rank 10: 40,000 kills
  • Rank 11: 60,000 kills
  • Rank 12: 80,000 kills
  • Rank 13: 100,000 kills
  • Rank 14: 125,000 kills
  • Rank 15: 150,000 kills

Along with the ranks, there is a high score list consisting of the top 100 current players with the most kills. Like the ranks, this table is often mistaken for highest skilled players. Here is the list.

Maps

In every round of every game set, there are maps of which you play on. Without maps, Stick Arena would be essentially useless for there would be nothing to play on. There are, as of now, five different themes of maps on Stick Arena: Office, Construction, Underground, Void, and Sky Island. The latter two themes can only be played in with a Lab Pass.

Stick Arena had many maps before its transition to Ballistick, which garnered it even more. Here is a list of the older Stick Arena maps before Ballistick:

  • XGen HQ
  • Sunnyvale Trailer Park
  • Toxic Spillway
  • Workplace Anxiety
  • Storage Yard
  • Green Labyrinth
  • Floor Thirteen
  • The Pit
  • Industrial Drainage
  • Globalmegacorp LTD
  • Concrete Jungle
  • Nuclear Underground
  • Unstable Terrace
  • Office Space
  • The Foundation
  • Brawlers Burrow
  • Trench Run
  • Corporate Wasteland
  • Sewage Treatment

Here is the list of the maps added after the expansion:

  • Storm Drain
  • Stick Federation HQ {B}
  • Transgalactic Com Station {B}
  • Space Elevator Control {B}
  • Automated Discovery Pod {B}
  • The SF Vengeance {B}
  • Gemini Control Station {B}
  • Outpost {B}
  • Space Mountain {B}
  • Barge {B}
  • Cliffside {B}
  • Orbit by Masterchuf {B}

The maps closing with a {B} means that they are only playable by Lab Pass players.

In addition to these many branded maps, you can also create your own map with the map editor built into the game, which can be accessed from the lobby. Any player may use the map editor and save maps so long as they have map slots. However, a player cannot play on their custom maps without a Lab Pass.

If a Lab Pass player attains enough votes for their map, it will get looked over by the administrators and decided for a map feature. Players receive a dark gray builder spinner as a reward to symbolize that they have a featured map. The second time a map is featured from the same player, they receive a gold builder spinner. The third time this happens the user receives a pink builder spinner and the fourth time this happens the user receives a dark green builder spinner. Featured maps can be found by clicking the "Featured" button in the "Create Game" menu.

The list of current featured maps and their respective images can be found here.

Map editing

The process of making a map in the map editor.

Map editing is a special tool in Stick Arena Ballistick. Members that own a lab pass have the option to create and share maps custom maps. If a person is lucky, their map may be featured by XGen. A person with a featured map is eligible for a unique spinner.

Map editing for non-Lab Pass players

Don't worry if you don't own a lab pass, because you can still create a map--you just cannot share it with others. There is a special way around this, but it requires two people, one of them with a Lab Pass. First, take screenshots of the map. After you have done this, you can find a respected person on the forums, someone known to help others out, and have them create and share the map. Don't worry about potential plagiarism, though. Chances are, if you came up with the idea for the map, you will get more credit for it.

Alternative map screen shot program

XGenStudios programmer eedok created an external program to get the image of a custom map uploaded. Simply insert your Stick Arena username and the number of the map slot that the map is saved to, and then hit the load. The option Collisions (as opposed to Map) will produce an image of your map, but rather than showing all of the details, it will show which areas can not be shot through or walked across, which areas can be shot through but not walked across, and which areas can both be shot through and walked across.

The purpose of this program is to get easy access to the full view of one's map, as well as post them in the User Created Maps sub-forum for people to see and critique.

This program does not work with Internet Explorer. It is known to work on Firefox and Chrome, so make sure you have one of those two before screening your map.

Stick Arena - Ballistick Servers

There are many servers in Stick Arena. Some more prominent than others. Here is a list of them:

  • 2 Dimensional Central
  • Paper Thin City {RP}
  • Fine Line Island
  • U of SA
  • Flat World¹
  • Planar Outpost¹
  • Mobius Metropilis¹
  • {Europe} Amsterdam¹
  • {Compatibility} Sticktopia²
  • {Lab Pass} The SS Lineage¹

¹Server has been added after the release of the Ballistick expansion. ²Server has been changed into a compatibility server.

Server Information

  • Paper Thin City was recently turned into the only server where role-playing is not prohibited.
  • The Compatibility server Sticktopiais the best server for people who have slow computers.
  • The European server is for people who log in while in parts of Europe or Asia.
  • The Lab Pass server is for users who have purchased a Lab Pass; it is a private server.

The Stick Arena League

The Stick Arena League was open to all Stick Arena playing forum members who are serious about playing rated matches and entering tournaments to win prizes and more. The league hosted monthly tournaments for contestants to rank up on the rating board, and granted the opportunity for users to win free lab passes and credits. The league also hosted League Matches which also served as means to rank up on the rating board. To join the league, you didn't have to be a great player, but you do you had to show up if you enter a tourney, and you had to play with honesty and integrity.

The league was created by Spectral and was sponsored by XGen Studios. Lab passes and other prizes were payed for and provided by XGen Studios administration.

Due to Spectral's retirement from Stick Arena and the forums, this league is now dead. Another Stick Arena League was being hosted by ir193ak but leadership was transferred to J.T after ir193ak was sentenced with a year-long ban.

Stick Arena Hall of Fame

Originally created by Drew, it showcased about fifty of the best players from olden times. After inactivity, and constant, it was locked.

Roughly two years after the first thread and idea was conceived, and a year after it was locked as well, a second version was made by ~Nooba~. It was widely accepted by Stick Arena players alike. It had something the original did not, and that was descriptions of all the new Hall of Fame inductees. It was to be decided that the original set would never be altered.

After ~Nooba~ lost interest, he held a poll to decide who would take over. That person became Ghecko who had promptly created the third Hall of Fame thereafter. It received mostly positive reception until the end where trouble regarding how players were getting in stirred, just before Ghecko requested it be closed due to the constant deplorable quarreling. Ghecko's version was most notable for including the official Stick Arena font and ranks beside each inductees names and descriptions.

Clans

A clan is a group of people that have formed a team with the purpose of trying to be the best. Clans often have their own website were they discus things such as: accepting or denying wars, picking teams for the next war, and picking new leaders. Clans recruit members to become a more active clan. They first started developing near the end of 2005, the first clan in existance was The Pwoned Clan, and to this day continue to thrive. Click here to find a helpful guide on how to make a clan. *Note when making a clan remember that it is o.k. to include a link to Stick Arena but it is illegal to directly host it on your website. It is strongly suggested not to use it if a clan has one because it can be modified to record your password and user-name to steal your account.

Moderators

Stick Arena is a safe, online multiplayer game, with a great community. However, there are times when people break the rules of the game. If a rule is broken, a moderator usually steps in. Moderators have the power to ban members for up to 24 hours, and could report them to an administrator of the game who has the power to permanently ban a troublemaker from Stick Arena.

Hackers

Stick Arena was made in Flash. As a result, the codes can easily be cracked and hacked. There are many hackpacks and trainers to download on the Internet, and Stick Arena users are strongly advised not to use them. The most notable hacks used by cheaters are invincibility, super speed, and a variety of unusual colours for an individual's character. There are many other types of hacking which may include methods to lag or disrupt your gameplay. Some hackpacks are also known to contain viruses and/or keyloggers, which will steal your account username and password.

It is advised that if you see a hacker in-game, you leave the game immediately and tell a moderator in the lobby as soon as possible. An alternative is booting them out via the in-game vote-kick feature, however this may not work for all hackers because of an "anti-kick" they may have included on their hack pack. Another way to deal with hackers is to record them. To record a hacker you would first need to download a screen recording program like camstudio or hypercam then start recording the hacker. Make sure to show the leader board so the name of the hacker is clearly visible. Another tip is to provide substantial evidance of hacking instead of giving a 5 second clip. When your done recording upload it to youtube and post a link to it in the report a hacker/scammer section in the xgenstudios forums. When making a video, include what hacks the hacker was using for the convieniance of our moderators. Common hacks are as follows:

If a person is caught using a hackpack by a moderator, he/she can be banned from the game. A second infraction results in a permanent ban.
