Profanity Filter
From XgenWiki
XGenStudios forum is currently equipped with a profanity filter that prevents most profane words from being displayed. If a user makes a post with these illicit words, they are automatically replaced by the filter.

General
Most words are replaced by cover-characters in the form of hash symbols (#). It's been like this ever since the transition to vBulletin. Despite this, several users continue to manually filter their profanity by uses the asterisks (*). The filter was generally acknowledged by users as an easier method to tone up aggression and seriousness in many posts. Other times it was used for comical purposes.
Circumvention
Forum members attempt frequently to circumvent and bypass the profanity filter, usually by intentionally misspelling words, using a blank code ( or ) on non-breaking characters, inserting unparsed tags into the word, or by other means ultimately resulting in the word displaying unfiltered. This type of post violates the Forum Rules and carries an automatic 2-point Infraction.
Additionally, images posted that contain words that would normally be filtered when typed on the forum would also be taken into account and treated for as if it was an intentional bypass at the profanity filter.
Forum members are accepted to be fairly acquainted with this rule as it is one of the only common offenses that warrants high than a 1-point infraction.
Filter Change
On April 1, 2009, the filter for some words had replaced from the use of hash symbols to actual alternative words. Most of the words switched out, most notably fuck and shit, were initially thought by others to be an April Fool's joke. However, as prolonged periods of time passed by, it was realized that it was a legitimate alteration that remained to stay after a few posts of mass hilarity. The filter change was originally done to reduce the patent appearance of profanity on the forums, as a thread filled with a cluster of ####'s was thought to be nearly as offensive as if the words weren't filtered at all.
Other words incapable of being changed to every day words (such as bitch, asshole, etc.) remained to be filtered with the hash symbols.
Later during the year, the abbreviation of faggot (fgt) was later changed to player to coincide with its other fag variations, and the word fuck with returned to its hash symbols filter, while the other changes made endured still to this day.
Replacements Made On April 1, 2009
- The word shit was replaced with the word poop.
- The word fuck was replaced with the word hump.¹
- The word newfag was replaced with the words new user.
- The word fag (and later faggot) was replaced with the word player.
- The abbreviation fgt (meaning faggot) was replaced with the word cigarette.¹
- For practicality, chairjew was also replaced with the word chejrw in order to prevent further trolling on Justin by users of the forum.
¹Was further altered following its change on April 1st.
Stick Arena Connection
The reason fag was most notably changed to player was due to the popular Spammer Land insult SAfag, which referred to ignorant and incompetent members of the forum, whom generally originated from Stick Arena and its respective forum. When fag is filtered to player, SAfag now reads SAplayer, which now obviously denotes someone who plays Stick Arena rather than disparages them. Due to the lack of connection between fag and player without the SA prefix, it has stayed because of the liking the forum took to it.
