Fishy (originally ! Fishy !) is an XGen original which takes place undersea as a small fish slowly but surely increasing in size as others are eaten. It was designed in Flash and ActionScipt and is also one of XGen's first games being released in 2003.
Game-play
The main objective of Fishy is to devour the fish of smaller bulk while simultaneously keep away and out of the way of larger predators moving along. None of the fish move in a particularly frantic manner, aside from your own, but rather in straight and coherent lines, as if neither notice each other. As your controlling fish consumes more food, it gradually grows and thereby expanding its range of sustenance within the sea.
In 2004, an updated Fishy game was re-released similar to the classic version. Instead of ! Fishy !, it was simply dubbed Fishy. It contained numerous levels rather than straightforward game-play as its predecessor had. Many favored the now dubbed Fishy Classic rather than the latter release.
Fishy's Success and Copycats
Due to the positive reception it had on XGen and Newgrounds, many mimics and unofficial direct sequels were made to Fishy, some being more successful than others. This resulted in Fishy becoming an instant classic flash game and being the first of its kind. It's been hosted on many sites and remains to be one of XGen's most popular games.
